Dalarna is one of Sweden’s most renowned regions for cross-country skiing, offering an extensive network of groomed trails in varied terrain. Here, easy-going tracks are combined with more challenging routes, often set in scenic surroundings with forests, open landscapes and views over frozen lakes.
In the Siljan area, including locations around Tällberg, Rättvik and Leksand, cross-country skiing is suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. The trails are regularly maintained throughout the winter season and are adapted for both classic and skate skiing. Whether you prefer a relaxed ski tour in nature or a more demanding workout, the area offers excellent conditions.
Cross-country skiing is deeply rooted in Dalarnas cultural heritage. The region is home to Vasaloppet, the world’s oldest and largest long-distance ski race, which attracts thousands of participants from around the world each year. The race has become a symbol of the strong skiing tradition in Dalarna and contributes to a vibrant cross-country culture well beyond the competition itself.
Approximately one hour by car from Tällberg lies Lugnet in Falun, one of Sweden’s most important Nordic skiing venues. Falun regularly hosts international competitions and will welcome the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2027, further strengthening Dalarna’s position as a leading destination for cross-country skiing, both historically and today.
