Traditions and innovations
Long weekends with us are extra special. Just like in the old days - which is how it should be here in Dalarna. We love our traditions and make sure that we celebrate Easter, Midsummer, Christmas and New Years with flair and style - which is one of the reasons so many of our guests return year after year. We welcome old friends and new, and invite them to enjoy our innovative take on old traditions.
Easter at the Green Hotel

Easter at the Green Hotel is one of the highlights of our year. It is the time when all our guests meet - returning and new, young and old, families, couples and singles. It is a celebration with plenty of good food and a fantastic atmosphere. We have live music with dancing, and a junior disco for our younger guests.
For the 14th year running and back by popular demand, we have great pleasure in introducing the Bar Quartet: Bruno Andersson on the piano, Jacek Malisz on guitar, bass, violin, keyboard and vocals, Nils-Inge Johansson on bass and vocals, and Björn Dahlin on the drums. From jazz to classical, they play it all!
On Good Friday there will be music, entertainment and a dance in the evening. On Saturday the dance floor, made of glass, is lowered from the ceiling over the pool area and once the music starts it's impossible to keep your feet still. On Easter Sunday we dance at the bar, Evergreens, while Bar Quartet play jazz, bossanova and more. Such great musicians!
Over Easter our guests also get to enjoy a traditional Easter discussion, art exhibition, music and entertainment, egg painting, guided walking tours of Tällberg, swimming in the pool, table tennis, darts and billiards. There are deck chairs on the terrace that catch the sun - the perfect spot for reading a good book.
Midsummer at the Green Hotel

Experience a traditional midsummer celebration in the heart of Dalarna. Here is how we celebrate at the Green Hotel:
Thursday
Many guests have arrived earlier in the day, and the real Midsummer celebrations begin at 6pm, with a delicious welcome dinner. The stage is already set: the hotel is beautifully decorated with branches from the forest, the surrounding meadows are filled with summer scents and beyond Lake Siljan the blue mountains rise up, as if watching it all. After dinner, coffee is served in the lounge or on the terrace overlooking the lake.
Midsummer Eve
All the villages celebrate with traditional music, costumes and food. The live folk music continues at our hotel, and all our hostesses wear their beautiful folk dresses. Nothing beats Midsummer in Dalarna.
If you prefer to stay at the hotel, there is an indoor and outdoor pool, sun terrace, tennis, activities on the park-like grounds, table tennis, a children's playground, comfortable lounges, and a very well-stocked bar with refreshments. There is also the stable, old bakery, hen house and guided tours.
After a Midsummer banquet at the hotel, the village raises the maypole. We dance to music from folk musicians alongside villagers and travellers from near and far. At the hotel the Midsummer bar is open and there's dancing in the lounge, and on the shores of Lake Siljan we dance on the decorated jetty.
Midsummer day
In the villages around Lake Siljan the maypoles are raised the week before Midsummer as well as after Midsummer Eve. At the Green Hotel we always raise the maypole on Midsummer Day - since 1947! After breakfast we all go out, young and old, to pick flowers from the meadows to dress the maypole. Then, accompanied by music from the folk musicians, we raise the pole - often the tallest in the village. After the maypole is raised, we all dance together and celebrate.
Sunday
Our breakfast buffet is always ready to be enjoyed. At the Green Hotel summer is one big celebration, so take the opportunity to enjoy wonderful days - and weeks - with us.
Merry Christmas at the Green Hotel!

As you approach Tällberg you can already feel the peace and joy of Christmas that greets you at the Green Hotel. When you step into our lobby you are met with warmth and light from the huge, roaring fireplace. By the time you settle into your room the smells of Christmas have reached you from the dining room and lounge and you know you have made the right choice. At the Green Hotel, Christmas is always a big and special celebration. As a guest there are many opportunities to celebrate - in peace and quiet or by joining in one of the many activities we offer, including games, dancing, music, and meeting Santa Claus, of course. There is also an early service on Christmas Day, a horse and sleigh complete with bells, and plenty of time for peaceful walks... or full speed ahead in a sleigh downhill. That is why Christmas with us is perfect for all ages. Welcome to the Green Hotel and have a very merry Christmas!
23rd December
Many guests choose to make the most of the Christmas package and arrive earlier and stay longer. On the 23rd December we have music in the lobby by the open fire, perfectly accompanied by warm glasses of 'glögg' - mulled wine. We make Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree, and at 6pm the doors are opened to the dining room. After dinner, coffee is served in the lounge where the atmosphere rises and dancing begins on the dance floor in the bar.
Christmas Eve
Sled, sleigh and skis - it's Christmas once again and Tällberg looks like a Christmas postcard. The hotel arranges a joyful walk to the village to take part in a quiz competition. In light of the huge Christmas dinner to come, we serve a smaller lunch. Everyone dresses the Christmas tree, and all ages enjoy seeing Santa Claus arrive, usually on a horse-drawn sleigh. After presents have been handed out Santa Claus himself might lead a dance around the Christmas tree and sometimes out into the corridor. Watching Disney cartoons on TV in the afternoon is a Swedish tradition, and everyone gathers here to watch them if they choose.
The big Christmas dinner table presents all the culinary delights of the season and everything is homemade by our skilful chefs. (Price for Christmas dinner only is 595 SEK). After the meal we meet in the lounge room where H.E. Börjeson presents his traditional Christmas speech. For the 41st time! The Christmas bar is open with plenty of space for socializing.
Christmas Day
Midnight coffee and a bus trip to midnight mass in Leksand's Church is a wonderful experience that can be booked with the Christmas package. In the morning a walk with a guide who tells stories about life in the village, followed by the 'Little Christmas' lunch serving all the best Christmas treats. After lunch we take in an exhibition at the Greenverket, which displays more than 100 works by artists including Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson, Kylberg, Picasso, Chagall and more. In the evening it's a candlelit dinner with the hostesses wearing their beautiful Leksand folk dresses. There's a junior disco for the young, and dancing to live music on the glass dance floor over the pool for the adults.
Boxing Day
Breakfast is extended to allow for an extra lie-in after a late night, and lunch is the hotel's delicious smorgasbord. In the afternoon you can go for a ride on a sleigh, sled or skis, or maybe take in a trip to the Zorn Museum and Sundborn (the former home of one of Sweden's favourite painters, Anders Zorn). Or why not just stay at the hotel and relax in the pool, sauna or one of our lounges? In the evening we offer a late light supper and serve Juljansson (a special Christmas dish) in the Picasso dinner room and Green salon.
Thursday 27th December
The yuletide atmosphere and festivities continue. You are welcome to stay longer and continue to enjoy the wonderful food, environment, new friends and warm candlelight that doesn't burn out just because Christmas is over. And you are always welcome back next year!
